SUMMARY:TOB 1: Intro to Theology of the Body Crash Course
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\n  \nDate/Time: Friday\, May 9\, 2025 | 6:30pm – 9:30pm AND Saturday\, May 10\, 2025 | 8:00am – 3:30pm\n*Ends in time for participants to go to Confession and attend the 4pm Vigil Mass if they choose\nLocation: Shrine of St. Martin of Tours (639 S Shelby St\, Louisville\, KY 40202)\nCost: $20 per person or $30 per couple. FREE for college students\, missionaries\, and clergy. \nThis consolidated crash course is an ideal solution for those who aren’t able to attend consecutive weeks due to work\, family obligations\, travel distance\, etc. Nursing infants are welcome. \nCourse Overview:\nThis course will provide an excellent introduction to Theology of the Body and a solid understanding of God’s plan for humanity. The facilitator will use the DVD series from Ascension Press\, An Intro to Theology of the Body: Discovering God’s Master Plan for Your Life. (Written as an 8-part study to gather weekly for 8 weeks\, we’ve consolidated all 8 sessions into this crash course with time for reflection\, discussion\, and prayer.) \nThe course will address the two most fundamental and universal questions: \n\nWhat does it mean to be made human\, male and female\, in the image and likeness of God?\nHow can I live my life in a way that brings happiness and fulfillment?\n\nThis study is for every “body” who desires to reach his or her full potential in this life and become Fully Alive — young\, old; single\, married; clergy and religious! Participants under age 18 may attend accompanied by parent/guardian. \n\nRSVP for the Event by completing the form at the end of the page.\n\n\nIf registering as a family\, choose Couple and complete the fields for the first two people\, then add remaining names and information in the Comment/Questions box at the bottom of the form. \nRegistration fee includes Handouts\, Snacks\, and Drinks throughout and a Continental Breakfast on Saturday. For lunch of Saturday\, either bring your own lunch or prepay and we will provide an assortment of deli sandwiches. \nAccompanying Minors: There are excellent Theology of the Body materials available for children of all ages\, however\, this course is designed for a more mature audience. Children under the age of 18 can attend at the discretion of their parents (guardian) and must be accompanied by an adult. \nCatechist Credit: All Family Renewal Project courses qualify for Catechist Credit through the Archdiocese of Louisville Office of Faith Formation. Click here to purchase. \n\n\n\n\nFacilitator: Justin Leiner\n\n\n \nThrough his life experiences\, education & training\, Justin will introduce sound relationship and spiritual intimacy principles in relatable and engaging ways. \nJustin has a degree in Theology from St. John’s University (Collegeville\, MN) and in May 2025 will complete his Masters in Psychology (from Divine Mercy University) with a concentration in Marriage and Family Studies. \nAfter completing his undergrad\, Justin served as a missionary with FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) for three years at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green\, Ohio. Then worked as a Campus Minister for two years before making his way to Kentucky as a full-time member of the FRP Discipleship Team where he serves as a Classroom Presenter / Content Specialist and Coordinator of the Catholic Couples Network Ministry. \nIn his role as Classroom Presenter\, Justin & his Teammates give presentations on the dignity of the human person and ‘healthy relationships’ to middle & high school students in over 40 classrooms throughout KYANA. \nJustin has completed the eight (8) required master’s level courses at the Theology of the Body Institute in pursuit of his Certification in Theology of the Body. Upon completion of his practicum\, Justin will join his fellow FRP teammate\, John Sohl\, as the 2nd person in the Archdiocese of Louisville with this credential. \nJustin is a great witness to and passionate about the Catholic faith; he is committed to helping others understand\, embrace\, and live their dignity and infinite potential. \nJustin was born and raised in the great state of Alaska! If cost is a concern\, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We are happy to provide the option that will allow you to attend. On Saturday\, May 24 you will have a unique opportunity to discover and reflect on your call to be a man in marriage. In the Steps of Christ\, the Bridegroom: Following the Son of Man to Be a Man in Marriage will focus on living sacrificial love for a healthy marriage. This retreat-style day of reflection will be led by Fr. Jonathan Erdman (see bio below). \nThis is not just another event — it’s an opportunity to be the man you are called to be! The event is open to all married men; however priority will be given to engaged and newly married men (3 years or less). \nSpace is limited. Registration is required. \nTo give priority to engaged and newly married men\, all men who are married more than 3 years will be placed on a first come/first serve wait list until May 14 (10 days prior to the event). On May 14\, if space is available\, these men will be notified in the order their registrations were received and given the option to attend OR receive a refund of the registration fee. \nTo reserve your spot\, please complete the registration form below.  \nThe day will include:  \n\na simple continental breakfast and lunch\nbeverages and snacks throughout the day\nfour (4) talks by Fr. Jonathan Erdman\n \nFather Jonathan Erdman was born in Mahoning Township\, Pennsylvania in 1978. He is the son of an Episcopal Priest. Father Erdman received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Missouri – Rolla in 2000\, and his MDiv from Yale University Divinity School in 2004. He was an Episcopal priest for twelve years before he and his family converted to the Catholic Church in July of 2016. He was ordained a Catholic priest on June 29\, 2017.  \nFather Erdman and his family came to Louisville in July of 2010 from New York City\, where he served as Curate and Youth Minister at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. From 2010 to early 2016 he served as Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville. He and his wife\, Andrea\, have five beautiful children. \nFather Erdman is passionate about preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is committed to pastoral ministry and worship\, and in making the riches of the traditions of the Church available\, especially the patrimony of the Anglican Catholic tradition.
