DESCRIPTION:This course will provide an excellent introduction to Theology of the Body and a solid understanding of God’s plan for humanity. The facilitators will use the DVD series from Ascension Press\, An Intro to Theology of the Body: Discovering God’s Master Plan for Your Life. \nThe course will address the two most fundamental and universal questions: \n\nWhat does it mean to be made human\, male and female\, in the image and likeness of God?\nHow can I live my life in a way that brings happiness and fulfillment?\n\nThis study is for every “body” who desires to reach his or her full potential in this life and become Fully Alive — young\, old; single\, married; clergy and religious! After graduating from college\, he served as a FOCUS missionary for three years at a college in Bowling Green\, Ohio before serving on the missionary staff of a Catholic camp in Texas before going back to Ohio as a campus minister. \n\n\nBecause he is generous to the core — in May 2023\, Justin donated one of his kidneys to a total stranger! After his recovery\, he found our job post online and in August 2024 celebrated his one year anniversary with FRP. \nLong before his employment with FRP\, Justin began taking masters level courses at the Theology of the Body Institute. He recently completed his 8th course in pursuit of his Certification in Theology of the Body. Upon completion\, he will be only the second person in the Archdiocese of Louisville with this Certification (the other being John Sohl\, FRP’s Director of Discipleship). \nJustin enjoys swing dancing and rock climbing and\, fun fact — he was born and raised in the great state of ALASKA! \nIn addition to leading TOB courses\, Justin coordinates our ministry for couples\, Catholic Couples Network\, and primarily serves as a content specialist and classroom presenter to 5th through 9th grade students for our BRIGHT and VICTORY ministries – giving presentations on the dignity of the human person and healthy relationships to students in over 40 classrooms throughout KYANA. \nJustin is committed to helping youth understand\, embrace\, and live their dignity and infinite potential; and is a great witness to and passionate about the Catholic faith. Both are cradle Catholics\, but neither knew nor practiced their faith until each had separate conversion experiences in college. After years of friendship and growing in their relationship with the Lord\, Vincent and Lucia were married in 2023. They live in Louisville with their baby daughter\, Sofía. \nLucia\, a native of Orlando\, Florida\, is a competitive ballroom dancer; she enjoys puzzles and games\, and she directs the choir and theatre programs at Holy Angels Academy. Lucia has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has spent the last few years teaching middle and high school mathematics at Holy Angels; she is now an Executive Assistant with St. Joseph Ministries. \nVincent grew up in Louisville\, and in his free time enjoys brewing wine and mead\, long conversations over good bourbon and a pipe\, and keeping bees with his dad. He is also a co-host of Spirit & Spire\, a podcast at the Cathedral of the Assumption. Jonathan Erdman\n \nFather Jonathan Erdman was born in Mahoning Township\, Pennsylvania in 1978. He is the son of an Episcopal Priest. Father Erdman received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Missouri – Rolla in 2000\, and his MDiv from Yale University Divinity School in 2004. He was an Episcopal priest for twelve years before he and his family converted to the Catholic Church in July of 2016. He was ordained a Catholic priest on June 29\, 2017.  \nFather Erdman and his family came to Louisville in July of 2010 from New York City\, where he served as Curate and Youth Minister at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. From 2010 to early 2016 he served as Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville. He and his wife\, Andrea\, have five beautiful children. \nFather Erdman is passionate about preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University who loves hunting\, fishing\, hiking\, theater\, videography\, and playing baseball. \nAfter discerning the call to the priesthood\, John transitioned from seminary to the role of discipleship leader in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Some may say “youth minister\,” but after five years of dedication to youth\, John realized that developing disciples is the ultimate goal. \nJohn has attended and led pilgrimages to the last 5 World Youth Days: Madrid\, Spain; Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil; Kraków\, Poland; Panama City\, Panamá; and Lisbon\, Portugal (accompanied by his wife\, Crystal). \nFor over six years (2015-2022)\, John served as the only male chastity instructor in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Every school year he and one of his female counterparts would teach a multi-day course at over 40 schools (Catholic\, private\, and public). \nIn March 2022\, John became the first and remains the only person in the Archdiocese of Louisville to complete his master’s level coursework [eight 30-hour immersion courses\, testing\, papers\, and an in-depth practicum] and receive the distinguished Certification in Theology of the Body from the TOB Institute — a major accomplishment! \nTogether\, John and his wife\, Crystal\, strive to understand\, embrace\, and live Theology of the Body! On Saturday\, February 28 you will have a unique opportunity to discover and reflect on your call to be a man in marriage. In the Steps of Christ\, the Bridegroom: Following the Son of Man to Be a Man in Marriage will focus on living sacrificial love for a healthy marriage. This retreat-style day of reflection will be led by Fr. Jonathan Erdman (see bio below). \nThis is not just another event — it’s an opportunity to be the man you are called to be! The event is open to all married men; however priority will be given to engaged and newly married men (3 years or less). \nSpace is limited. Registration is required. \nTo give priority to engaged and newly married men\, all men who are married more than 3 years will be placed on a first come/first serve wait list until February 18 (10 days prior to the event). Jonathan Erdman\n \nFather Jonathan Erdman was born in Mahoning Township\, Pennsylvania in 1978. He is the son of an Episcopal Priest. Father Erdman received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Missouri – Rolla in 2000\, and his MDiv from Yale University Divinity School in 2004. He was an Episcopal priest for twelve years before he and his family converted to the Catholic Church in July of 2016. He was ordained a Catholic priest on June 29\, 2017.  \nFather Erdman and his family came to Louisville in July of 2010 from New York City\, where he served as Curate and Youth Minister at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. From 2010 to early 2016 he served as Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville. He and his wife\, Andrea\, have five beautiful children. \nFather Erdman is passionate about preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is committed to pastoral ministry and worship\, and in making the riches of the traditions of the Church available\, especially the patrimony of the Anglican Catholic tradition. Ben Cameron of the Fathers of the Mercy\nSecret Fire Work Projects\nDaily Mass\, Adoration\, & Confession\nLiturgy of the Hours\nHikes\, Exploration\, & Fellowship\nNightly Bonfire\nDaily Meals [except lunch on Friday / see note below]\nIndoor Bathroom & Shower\nSeveral priests of the ArchLou have expressed interest and will participate as their schedules permit! \n\nRETREAT LOCATION & ACCOMMODATIONS:\nThe retreat will be held on 135 acres of undeveloped wooded property in Larue County\, Kentucky (address will be provided only to registrants).  A true get-away from suburbia\, approximately 65 miles from the ArchLou Pastoral Center on Poplar Level Road. \nA very simple house with electricity\, central A/C\, internet\, and indoor plumbing is on the property.  \nPlus\, a metal storage barn with a gravel floor; the barn has lighting. \nThe sleeping accommodations: \n\n10 can sleep in the 2-bedroom house [8 in beds/on sofas\, 2 on the floor]\n8-10 can sleep in the barn\nUnspecified sleeping in tents [dependent on number of tents available]\nPriority for sleeping in the house will be given to clergy and those with specific needs; otherwise\, sleeping in the barn and then in tents will be assigned by lottery\n\nTo provide the best experience for all\, the retreat will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants (including clergy & sons). Once the retreat is full\, a waiting list will be started. All images will be used without payment or other consideration and will become the property of Family Renewal Project. \nRETREAT LEADER\, Fr. Ben Cameron\, C.P.M.\nFr. Ben Cameron was born in Kokomo\, Indiana\, and grew up as a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. During his junior high and high school years\, he attended a small Christian school that was operated by a local Baptist church. It was in that non-Catholic environment\, where his faith was often challenged\, that he began to study the Catholic Faith. \nFr. Ben is a 1991 graduate of Christendom College\, a small Catholic liberal arts college in Front Royal\, Virginia\, where he became involved in a lay apostolate known as the Legion of Mary\, which awakened his desire to share his Catholic Faith with others. Upon receiving his degree in Political Science and History\, Fr. Ben planned a career in the political arena but soon found that God had other plans. He joined the Fathers of Mercy in 1992\, studied theology at Holy Apostles Seminary in Cromwell\, Connecticut\, and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood on May 31\, 1997. Fr. Ben has served as Vocation Director\, Treasurer\, Mission Director and Assistant General of the Fathers of Mercy during his priesthood. He has served as a full-time parish mission preacher and retreat master (2000-2018)\, and as pastor of St. Helen’s Parish\, Glasgow\, Kentucky\, and its mission church\, Our Lady of the Caves in Horse Cave\, Kentucky (2018-2022). Currently\, he is again serving as a full-time parish mission preacher and retreat master. \nThe Congregation of the Fathers of Mercy was founded in 1808\, originally under the title of the “Missionaries of France.” The community was founded for the purpose of re-evangelizing the French people after the Catholic Faith had been subjected to years of attacks and persecution during the French Revolution. It is now an exclusively American community. The Generalate of the community is located a few miles outside of Bowling Green\, Kentucky. The primary apostolate of the Fathers of Mercy is to conduct parish missions and retreats\, which are now given throughout the United States\, Canada and Australia. \nDuring this “Servants of the Secret Fire” retreat\, Fr. Ben will encourage and challenge participants to make a stronger\, deeper personal commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church and he gives multiple talks on “The Christian Vocation in the Lord of the Rings.” \nSPACE IS LIMITED!
