In his free time\, Preston enjoys golf\, running\, and working on house projects with his wife. \nAmanda was introduced to Theology of the Body [TOB] through her high school youth group and during her senior year of high school she read TOB for Beginners by Christopher West. At the time\, she could have never imagined the positive impact TOB would have on her future friendships & relationships.  In 2019\, while they were dating\, Preston was introduced to TOB when he and Amanda together read Dr. Edward Sri’s very popular book\, “Men\, Women\, and the Mystery of Love”.  Since then\, Preston has latched onto many of Christopher West’s teachings by attending a live Made for More event\, becoming a weekly listener of the Ask Christopher West podcast\, and making a TOB pilgrimage to Fatima and Spain in 2022. \nAmanda & Preston brought Theology of the Body into their relationship at the very beginning and keep it at the center. They recognize that their faith and TOB shaped and guided them in building a sturdy foundation for the Sacrament of Matrimony and they continue to use the teachings to guide them in their decisions and grow closer in relationship to God. At the age of 13\, after receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation\, he began to wonder if he was being called to the priesthood. At 16\, he enrolled in high school seminary in Cheshire\, Connecticut with the Legionaries of Christ. His ongoing seminary formation took him to places across the globe\, including: Dublin\, Ireland; White Plains\, New York; Madison\, Wisconsin; and Rome\, Italy. Over the course of 10 years he achieved a licentiate in Philosophy (specializing in anthropology and ethics) and in Theology (specializing in spiritual theology). Both degrees were attained at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. A three-year pastoral assignment during seminary was dedicated to youth groups\, retreats and summer camps in the north central part of the United States. Fr. Murphy was ordained a priest with the Legionaries of Christ on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe\, December 12\, 2009. He returned to youth work\, this time in the Ohio Valley Region. From there he returned to Italy for six years where he served as chaplain to the English-speaking community of Florence in the Church of Santi Apostoli. After intense and prayerful discernment in 2019 he was granted permission by then Archbishop Kurtz to transfer “back home” and become a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville.
