DESCRIPTION:This course will provide an excellent introduction to Theology of the Body and a solid understanding of God’s plan for humanity. The facilitators will use the DVD series from Ascension Press\, An Intro to Theology of the Body: Discovering God’s Master Plan for Your Life. \nThe course will address the two most fundamental and universal questions: \n\nWhat does it mean to be made human\, male and female\, in the image and likeness of God?\nHow can I live my life in a way that brings happiness and fulfillment?\n\nThis study is for every “body” who desires to reach his or her full potential in this life and become Fully Alive — young\, old; single\, married; clergy and religious! Participants under age 18 may attend accompanied by parent/guardian. After graduating from college\, he served as a FOCUS missionary for three years at a college in Bowling Green\, Ohio before serving on the missionary staff of a Catholic camp in Texas before going back to Ohio as a campus minister. \n\n\nBecause he is generous to the core — in May 2023\, Justin donated one of his kidneys to a total stranger! After his recovery\, he found our job post online and in August 2024 celebrated his one year anniversary with FRP. \nLong before his employment with FRP\, Justin began taking masters level courses at the Theology of the Body Institute. He recently completed his 8th course in pursuit of his Certification in Theology of the Body. Some may say “youth minister\,” but after five years of dedication to youth\, John realized that developing disciples was the ultimate goal. \nJohn has attended & led pilgrimages to the last 5 World Youth Days: Madrid\, Spain; Rio de Janeiro\, Brazil; Kraków\, Poland; Panama City\, Panamá and he and his wife attended WYD in Lisbon\, Portugal in 2023. \nFor over six years\, John served as the only male chastity instructor in the Archdiocese of Louisville. Every school year he & one of his female counterparts would teach a multi-day course at over 40 schools (Catholic\, private\, and public). \nJohn is the first and currently the only person in the Archdiocese of Louisville to have completed his Master’s Certification in Theology of the Body from the TOB Institute … a major accomplishment! \nJohn married his wonderful wife\, Crystal in October of 2019. Both are cradle Catholics\, but neither knew nor practiced their faith until each had separate conversion experiences in college. After years of friendship and growing in their relationship with the Lord\, Vincent and Lucia were married in 2023. They live in Louisville with their baby daughter\, Sofía. \nLucia\, a native of Orlando\, Florida\, is a competitive ballroom dancer; she enjoys puzzles and games\, and she directs the choir and theatre programs at Holy Angels Academy. Lucia has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has spent the last few years teaching middle and high school mathematics at Holy Angels; she is now an Executive Assistant with St. Joseph Ministries. \nVincent grew up in Louisville\, and in his free time enjoys brewing wine and mead\, long conversations over good bourbon and a pipe\, and keeping bees with his dad. After years of friendship and growing in their relationship with the Lord\, Vincent and Lucia were married in 2023. They live in Louisville with their baby daughter\, Sofía. \nLucia\, a native of Orlando\, Florida\, is a competitive ballroom dancer; she enjoys puzzles and games\, and she directs the choir and theatre programs at Holy Angels Academy. Lucia has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has spent the last few years teaching middle and high school mathematics at Holy Angels; she is now an Executive Assistant with St. Joseph Ministries. \nVincent grew up in Louisville\, and in his free time enjoys brewing wine and mead\, long conversations over good bourbon and a pipe\, and keeping bees with his dad. He is also a co-host of Spirit & Spire\, a podcast at the Cathedral of the Assumption. Both are cradle Catholics\, but neither knew nor practiced their faith until each had separate conversion experiences in college. After years of friendship and growing in their relationship with the Lord\, Vincent and Lucia were married in 2023. They live in Louisville with their baby daughter\, Sofía. \nLucia\, a native of Orlando\, Florida\, is a competitive ballroom dancer; she enjoys puzzles and games\, and she directs the choir and theatre programs at Holy Angels Academy. Lucia has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has spent the last few years teaching middle and high school mathematics at Holy Angels; she is now an Executive Assistant with St. Joseph Ministries. \nVincent grew up in Louisville\, and in his free time enjoys brewing wine and mead\, long conversations over good bourbon and a pipe\, and keeping bees with his dad. He is also a co-host of Spirit & Spire\, a podcast at the Cathedral of the Assumption. They are committed students and avid enthusiasts of TOB; their knowledge along with their heart-warming personalities will provide a wonderful experience to participants throughout this two-part course. \nGet to know the Frenches . . . \nBoth UK grads\, Amanda [originally from Owensboro] has a degree in communication sciences and disorders\, she currently works part-time as a speech language pathologist; Preston [originally from Western Kentucky] has a degree in mechanical engineering and currently works for a local engineering company. \nAmanda enjoys ice cream\, spending time with her family\, being outdoors on her family’s farm\, and hiking. In his free time\, Preston enjoys golf\, running\, and working on house projects with his wife. \nAmanda was introduced to Theology of the Body [TOB] through her high school youth group and during her senior year of high school she read TOB for Beginners by Christopher West. At the time\, she could have never imagined the positive impact TOB would have on her future friendships & relationships.  In 2019\, while they were dating\, Preston was introduced to TOB when he and Amanda together read Dr. Edward Sri’s very popular book\, “Men\, Women\, and the Mystery of Love”.  Since then\, Preston has latched onto many of Christopher West’s teachings by attending a live Made for More event\, becoming a weekly listener of the Ask Christopher West podcast\, and making a TOB pilgrimage to Fatima and Spain in 2022. \nAmanda & Preston brought Theology of the Body into their relationship at the very beginning and keep it at the center. They recognize that their faith and TOB shaped and guided them in building a sturdy foundation for the Sacrament of Matrimony and they continue to use the teachings to guide them in their decisions and grow closer in relationship to God. They often say\, “we wouldn’t be here without it.” \n\nThe Frenches were united in marriage in 2021 and gave birth to their first child in 2022. DESCRIPTION:High school Teens & their Parents are invited to participate in YOU: Life\, Love\, and the Theology of the Body a ‘life-changing experience’ produced by Ascension Press \n\n \n*To REGISTER complete the form at the end of this page*\n  \n10-part series meeting on Tuesday evenings:\nFeb 27\, Mar 5\, 12\, 19\, 26\, Apr 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\, May 7\n* We will not meet on April 2 due to Spring break  \n6:00pm – 8:15pm \nLocation: Immaculate Conception in LaGrange \n\n502 N 5th Ave\, La Grange\, KY 40031 \n  \n \n  \n\n\n\n\nWHY should you and your high school Teen(s) participate?  \n\nAt various stages and ages\, children wonder about human sexuality. Some will ask questions to their parents or other trusted adults\, but many won’t [the large majority will turn to peers or other inadequate resources]. Approaching these topics &/or providing appropriate responses to questions often induces anxiety in parents because they either feel uncomfortable or uncertain OR because they fear their responses may influence their children to act in a certain way.  “YOU“ is here for you and your teens. \nIn our current culture\, teens receive conflicting messages everywhere they turn. To be prepared to make decisions and live independently\, they deserve to know more than the rules of what’s right and wrong. \n“YOU” will provide the whys behind the whats\, and pave the way to authentic freedom and true happiness! \nPersonhood is being challenged in ways that our parents and grandparents could have never imagined! Providentially\, Saint John Paul II’s writings and vision of the human person known as “Theology of the Body” has come to us for a time such as this! \n“YOU” is based on Theology of the Body and the teachings of the Catholic Church! \n\n \n\n\n\n\nYOU. Life\, Love\, and the Theology of the Body \nRecipient of the 2022 How to Homeschool Award\n \nBest Home School Programs on the Planet \n\n \nWho Will Facilitate? \n \nVincent holds a BS in Economics and a BA in Spanish (he speaks it fluently). After college he served as a permanent substitute high school history teacher at a local Catholic school. \n\n\n\n\n  \n \n  \nMaria holds a BA in Psychology. After college she served as a private aide for a kindergarten student with Down Syndrome at a local Catholic school. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \n\n\n  \n\n\nJustin holds a BA in Theology and is pursuing a MS in Psychology. After college he served as a FOCUS missionary for three years in Ohio. Justin has completed (6) masters level courses at the Theology of the Body Institute in pursuit of this TOB Certification. \n  \nCurrently\, Vincent\, Maria\, & Justin all serve as Content Specialists & Presenters for Family Renewal Project. As a Team they givepresentations on ‘healthy relationships’ to middle & highschoolers in over 40 schools throughout KYANA. They are great witnesses to and passionate about the Catholic faith; and are committed to helping youth understand\, embrace\, and live their dignity and infinite potential. \n  \n \nSusan is a Co-Founder of Family Renewal Project. As a volunteer she serves as the FRP Education and Formation Advisor and provides Administrative Support for Good Shepherd Institute of the Bluegrass (Catholic counseling for individuals\, couples & families). \n\n\n\nAscension Press describes the YOU Series as a “life changing experience for teens”. In an age of “selfies” and egocentrism\, YOU cuts through the noise to present an authentic view of the human person. It presents young people with the extraordinary story of their creation as unrepeatable individuals. But the program doesn’t stop there. YOU. Life\, Love\, and the Theology of the Body introduces teens to the truth that life is not\, in fact\, all about them; it is about going out of themselves to be a sincere gift for others. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nWHAT is the COST and What is Included? \nThe cost is $15 per family \n\n-Every Teen will receive his/her own JOURNAL to use throughout the series for taking notes and writing personal reflections \n-Every household will receive one YOU: Life\, Love\, and Theology of the Body PARENT GUIDE to follow throughout the series and keep as a reference for the future \n-Each week all participants will receive a handout with an outline and questions for the evening \n-Pizza\, Water\, & Snacks will be provided at each session \n\n*Ascension Press also has a ‘student workbook’ that corresponds with the series. Based in prior experience\, the student workbook isn’t necessary; plus\, we don’t want the teens to have the sense that this ‘like school’. If you\, as a parent\, want to purchase the workbook for your family\, you can buy new from Ascension Press [$20 each + shipping HERE] or USED copies are plentiful on  websites that sell second-hand books and for a fraction of the cost. \n\n\n\n* SHOUT OUT * to LITTLE CAESARS Pizza in Crestwood. The family is generously donating the pizzas for all 10 weeks of this series!  PLEASE remember their kindness and whenever you purchase pizza in the future\, buy it from Little Caesars! \n\n  \n \n  \nNOTE TO PARENTS \nFamily Renewal Project is honored to facilitate the YOU program for high school Teens & their Parents. This program will provide the opportunity for your sons and daughters [and\, oftentimes\, parents as well] to discover God’s beautiful plan for human sexuality and personhood through the lens of St. John Paul II’s magnificent work known as the Theology of the Body. \nUnderstanding the truth of what it means to be a human person made in the image and likeness of God is absolutely essential to stand against the culture and the lies of the enemy who has waged war against the family and the souls of our children! YOU: Life\, Love\, and the Theology of the Body will cover many topics\, including these more sensitive topics: gender identity\, same sex attraction\, contraception & abortion\, pornography\, and sex outside of marriage. All information is shared with utmost respect and sensitivity in an age-appropriate manner and faithful to the magisterium of the Church. \nHonoring that you\, as parents\, are the first and primary teachers of your children; this program will supplement & in some cases provide information you teach at home. Your role in shaping your children’s lives is pivotal. Even if it does not appear to be so\, they are watching and listening to you. Studies show again and again that parents have the largest influence on their children. Not peers\, sports\, video games\, social media\, etc. – but parents!  You are to be commended for enrolling your child (and you/your spouse) in this program!! Children (especially teens) may shy away from saying it out loud\, but they actually do want their parents to be lovingly engaged in their lives. \nEach week teens will gather in one room with two facilitators\, and parents will gather in another room with two facilitators. [Susan will always be with the parents\, while the young adults will rotate from week to week.]  Everyone will follow the same schedule and the same topics will be covered  in the same order with both groups; providing you and your children the opportunity to journey through this life-changing program together. The ensuing conversations you have with your sons and daughters about the topics discussed will enrich their experience\, deepen your relationships\, strengthen your families\, and ultimately change the culture.  \nBy completing the registration form\, you acknowledge that you‘ve read this ‘note to parents’ and consent to gather in a separate room with other parents for each session while your child(ren) are with the other teens. We (the facilitators and leaders of FRP) will always honor your parental authority and do not take the trust you have placed in us for granted.
