Entering into the Triduum
In three days, we will walk with Jesus through His Passion. When we think of The Passion of Christ, the urge might be to run away or brush it off – to ignore the discomfort that comes from the realization that a real Man went through this torture for you. I invite you to sit in the hurt and ache, in every lashing, beat to the head, and weary step to Calvary. Do not abandon Him in His darkest hour as He does not abandon you every day.
And, in a particular way, we can also be with Mary in this time. Imagine seeing your son scourged and condemned to be crucified…watching His holy blood drip on the streets of Jerusalem, seeing the agony of the onlookers, and feeling sorrow so profound it is like swords piercing your heart…be with her here. Walk the Crucifixion with her. It is hard to wrap our heads around the reality of this brutality happening – nonetheless to our own God. Please don’t rush past the pain this Holy week. Sit in it and see where God wants to guide you in these meditations. Jesus didn’t suffer and die so we didn’t have to, He suffered and died so we would know how to.
Hail to you, our King, obedient to the Father; you were led to your crucifixion like a gentle lamb to the slaughter.
