Family Renewal Project was established in 2016 to help “restore the family and renew the culture by educating and forming men and women to understand, embrace, and live authentic love and responsibility.” We strive to connect persons of all ages with the message of Theology of the Body through various programming and events.
We believe that people are meant to be happy, healthy, and free. Freedom from destructive or negative patterns of thinking or behavior is possible!
You can…heal from grief and loss, learn how to love and to be loved, engage fully in relationships with others, break the chains of unpleasant and harmful patterns, and live abundantly!

MEET OUR TEAM
Andrew Van Roie, LPCA
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate
With a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Andrew is eager to join the Team in his role as the full-time clinician with Good Shepherd Institute of the Bluegrass and continue our well-respected and proven history of providing professional, Catholic faith-based services.
Andrew is originally from Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. Upon graduation he worked with the Montgomery County Police Department and in restaurant management until beginning his graduate studies in 2022 at the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio.
Franciscan University is one of the few Catholic graduate programs fully accredited by CACREP (an independent accrediting agency of counseling programs throughout the U.S. which ensures programs meet the standards of excellence set by the counseling profession). Franciscan University is unapologetically Catholic and trains counselors to first recognize each person as a child of God.
Andrew has experience working with both children and adults who present varying needs and histories; and extensive work assisting individuals struggling with various addictions.
Andrew looks forward to working with individuals, families, and parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Louisville. He believes that counseling is more than simply addressing the presenting issue; true healing occurs when we repair our relationship with others, ourselves, and God.

Richard R. Meyer, PsyD
Psychologist
Dr. Meyer celebrated his 50th anniversary offering faith-based clinical mental health services in March 2024. He received his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology in 1983.
Over these 50 years he worked at the Community Mental Health Center in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and then Comprehensive Care Center in Northern Kentucky before co-founding the Christian Counseling Center of Cincinnati in 1988, and joining full time in March 1991. After working three years for New Life Clinics and then four years part-time at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Edgewood, KY from 2000 through 2003, he founded the Good Shepherd Institute in January of 2004 to more directly serve Catholic and Evangelical clients through faith-based clinical practice and inner-healing prayer.
In July 2019 Dr. Meyer began an adult Grief Group at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center’s Hospice Center in Edgewood, KY. Soon after he began another grief group at the same location for those who have suffered the loss of a child or other loved one through opioid overdose. In October 2019, Dr. Meyer was hired as HSP clinical supervisor for founding therapist, Elina Holland, and co-founded Good Shepherd Institute of the Bluegrass (GSIB), a ministry of Family Renewal Project.
GSIB serves the Catholic-Christian community in support of marriage and family life, and provides individual professional therapy services to Catholics and other Christians from an authentic faith-based perspective.
In July 2021, when Elina transitioned out of clinical practice, Dr. Meyer began seeing patients in Louisville two days per week while maintaining his practice in Covington, Kentucky. Dr. Meyer will see patients in Louisville until Andrew Van Roie is fully licensed, after which time he will be available for in-person appointments in his office in Covington or for virtual appointments.
